Official: Blanc leaves Bordeaux

Just 24 hours after the close of the 2009-2010 Ligue1 season, former Champions Girondins Bordeaux have announced that their manager Laurent Blanc has accepted France's proposal to coach its national team.

Laurent Blanc and his assistant Jean-Louis Gasset arrived at Bordeaux three years ago, finishing second in his first coaching campaign before winning the Ligue1 and League Cup Champions in his second season in charge of Girondins.

A statement on the official website of Bordeaux reads:

"FC Girondins de Bordeaux has just been informed by its coach, Laurent Blanc, that he intends to accept the offer from the FFF (French Football Federation) team.

"The club wished to keep Laurent Blanc as head coach of Bordeaux until the end of his contract on June 30 2011.

"Given the excellent relationship that has been developed between the club and the coach over the past three years and the excellent work achieved over that time by Monsieur Blanc and his assistant Monsieur Gasset and the entire coaching staff, FC Girondins de Bordeaux has accepted to negotiate the departure of the club's coach with the FFF."
