Juan Mata Set To Join Chelsea, Bayern Pull Out Of Montolivo Race

Lets face the assumptions of Juan Mata's supposed move to Arsenal earlier, and try to be honest about the conclusion we are most certainly bound to reach.

I don't buy the idea that Chelsea stole our thunder, Arsene Wenger was not coy about his transfer dealings with Valencia (Mata) and Everton (Phil Jagielka), and this invariably means their position in respect to joining the Arsenal was already known by those who managed to read between the lines three weeks ago.

Anyway, Valencia have taken time out of their somewhat hectic schedule -ahead of their preparations for the new La Liga season to announce that they've reached an agreement in principle with Chelsea for the onward transfer of the 23-year-old winger.

In the meantime, Bayern Munich's sporting director Christian Nerlinger has confirmed that the German outfit is out of the virtual race to sign Fiorentina's playmaker Riccardo Montolivo, leaving Arsenal and Ac Milan as the real contenders for his signature.

"There is no truth in the rumours [linking Bayern with Montolivo]. We will not sign any more players this summer," Nerlinger said to Abendzeitung.
