Villareal Confirm Santiago Cazorla's €21m Switch

The yellow submarines have officially confirmed the speedy capture of their 26-year-old midfielder Santiago Cazorla, by fellow La Liga side Malaga in a deal worth €21m.

The deal was completed a few hours ago after the confirmation of his medical results. Santi, as he is fondly called thanked his well wishers and the club for their encouragement and support, and pledged his unwavering loyalty to Villareal in his departure speech.

He confirmed that Arsenal as well as, other clubs were interested in signing him - but he had no qualms choosing Manuel Pelligrini's team because of his long standing relationship with the former Madrid handler, coupled with the manager's assurances: "During the summer there were offers from several teams, but Malaga's offer was outstanding and that really interested me."

Cazorla also explained that it was not his wish to leave, but the harsh economic climate meant his former club had little or no option than to sell him to the highest bidder: "The club is having financial problems and needed to sell urgently. If not, I would have continued with my job as a player for Villareal."
