Per Mertesacker is still an Arsenal transfer target

The Daily star understands that Arsene wenger might consider Werder Bremen's skipper Per Mertesacker, a viable option in the wake of his highly publicised, yet dissapointing pursuit of Everton's Phil Jagielka.

The report expects the Arsenal chief to snap the German international who is reportedly eager to join the Gunners, maybe as a direct replacement for the outgoing William Gallas.

The author cited some anonymous sources to buttress his claim, but it's left for you to ponder, if the manager can afford to bankroll another defensive signing given the current options available at his disposal.

per mertesacker should've been wengers first choice signing in my opinion, he's quick, reads the game well and never panics while under pressure and he's tall as well, still think wenger should sign a DM and a world class keeper, not schwarzer.
Mertesacker ...............yes .He was excellent in the German National teamHe is the the type of player we desparately need if we are to win anything this year.Sell or give Bendtner **** as he will never make it at ARSENAL.So pleased to hear that he will miss the first few matches due to injury. We might score a few goals now.In my opinion Mertasaker would be the final piece in a jigsaw as i can see with him we have a strong chance of winning the league. He is class which our defence lacks and he is TALL !!!!!
He's absolutely fantastic. I love him too, but I'm yet to convince myself Wenger will turn in his direction, we can only hope.
