Federico Marchetti might still sign for Arsenal

Cagliari's Federico Marchetti, is gradually losing his stand in Italy, no thanks to Arsenal's unwavering pursuit claims Sportitalia.

The goalkeeper is thought to be on his way out of the Seria A outfit, and Arsenal are reportedly the favourites to snap him whenever an opportunity to do so presents itself. The report revealed exclusively that the club's President Cellino, was contacted by Arsenal via phone some hours ago, and his pending response would prove to be the decisive factor in respect to where Marchetti will pitch his tent next season.

The atmosphere at the club is very tense given the fact that the lad missed a friendly match yesterday due to a sudden injury, and came under fire from his fans recently. The disgruntled supporters insulted him because they think he's about to abandon them for a better offer somewhere else (possibly Sampdoria or abroad).

Arsenal attempted to formalise the transfer yesterday according to Football Italia. The Gunners put in a formal offer of €6m for Marchetti in a bid to accelerate his transfer, but their somewhat generous offer was rejected by Cagliari, who are holding up for €9m , a price the gunners aren't prepared to pay - at least for now.

Negotiations are still ongoing, and "if" everything goes as planned Mark Shwarzer and Manuel Almunia, won't join in the celebrations.
