Lille sign Payet: indication that Gervinho is Arsenal bound

Despite suggestions in some corners that the highly anticipated arrival of the Ivorien international from France to North London might not see the light of day, due to the inability of the parties involved to reach an agreement. Gervinho's (soon to be ex) club have gone a step closer to admitting the possibility of losing the 24-year-old striker in the coming weeks to their London counterpart with the arrival of St. Etienne's Dimitri Payet.

The France international has signed a four-year contract with LOSC Lille, the French champions said in a statement on their official website some hours ago. The 24-year-old rejected an offer to join Ligue1 side PSG -who were initially believed to be the front runners in the race to grab his signature. He's expected to fill the void his predecessor's absence might create in the long run.

Meanwhile, Lille hope to recoup their investment with a significant amount of interest in the short run via the sale of Gervinho to Arsenal.
