Manuel Neuer says Lampard's goal was valid

Germany' shot-stopper Manuel Neuer believes his somewhat smart attitude influenced the referee' corresponding decision to deny Frank Lampard, an invaluable World Cup goal.

The goalkeeper has refused to deny the authenticity of the strike, which would have afforded England a rare opportunity to stage a magnificient comeback.

Neuer said: "I saw the ball, I quickly picked it up and I quickly restarted.

"If I had looked right or left, perhaps it would have struck the referee's attention. Maybe, he might have considered awarding the goal.

"Clearly it was valid, I don't have any doubt about it, I've seen the replays also."

The Germans beat their English counterparts (4-1), to aid their onward progress into the quarter-finals of the ongoing Fifa 2010 World Cup tournament in South Africa.

Manuel Neuer did not say that he tricked or conned the referee. You are putting words into his mouth.

Ok! Guys I've amended the post title, but in reality Manuel Neuer was wrong to decieve the referee.

He did not deceive the ref, lol. Any gk in the world wud have done that. He did what he was supposed to do, which was to catch the ball and play. It is the ref's duty to see if it was a goal. It's not like he went to the ref and said it was not a goal. He just kept playing. Ur title is misleading and puts a bad impression about the keeper on ignorant readers.

he didn't deceive the ref at all,the ref and his assistants are there to make the decisions, not the players. where were these extra officials behind each goal that they've used in the Europa league? surely that would have been sufficient in this case?

The GK did well. his responbsibility is to hold the ball and to start the game. he is not a decision maker. He did what every body did. So he is hero for me.
