Nicklas Bendtner is not scared of facing Barcelona at the Camp Nou
next week. The Danish striker engineered the Gunners comeback in the
first leg of the Champions League tie at the Emirates. He also
produced an impressive performance against Wolves yesterday in the
Barclays Premier League - spearheading the winner against the lowly
club.

The 22-year-old said: "We showed belief and we showed character. I
still think we can go through. It will take a monumental effort to win
in the Nou Camp. But Barcelona have lost there this season in a group
game against the lowly Russians of Rubin Kazan and they will also be
without first-choice central defenders Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol."

Bendtner: Messi won't shine

Hat-trick hero Nicklas Bendtner is set to face Messi's Barcelona in
the Champions League quarter-finals first leg on Wednesday.

The Danish Striker has warned Barca that the tie won't be
business-as-usual for their dangerman, because their main supply
route (midfield) will be met by the Gunners stiff resistance.
Lionel Messi is capable of making defenders look miserable and
Bendtner who is aware of the susceptibility of the Gunners defence
isn't scared of the Barca magician, he believes Arsene Wenger will
deploy the right tactics to ensure the Catalan giants bow out of the
Champions League in the quarter-finals.

Bendtner insists that the Gunners have the advantage even though the
odds aren't favourable to them: "What counts in Arsenal's favour is
that we play in a different way to which Messi is accustomed in
Spain," he enthused.
"He will probably not get as much room to run with the ball, and the
pace of games is faster in England. It will be an entirely different
battle for him and Barcelona.

Bendtner praised the dimunitive wizard and admitted that he will be a
problem for the Gunners: "So even though they may be slight favourites
against us, I still expect it to be a balanced game. But Messi is the
best in the World right now. He has a fantastic eye for the game, he
has pace and he has scored many goals.
"He has quick feet, and it is impossible to get the ball off him. It
is his overall qualities that count - for me he is the greatest," he
concluded.

Bendtner says he might not play against Birmingham

Nicklas Bendtner has revealed that he might not make the trip to
Birmingham to help Arsenal with their title ambition, because of an
injury he sustained during last week's clash with West Ham.

The Danish striker has been in stellar form lately - he has made it a
point of duty to prove his critics wrong by delivering the overdue
goods irrespective of whom we play. His absence will be hugely felt,
especially if he fails to shrug off the injury.

He maintained that he's a doubt for the make/mar encounter this
weekend with Birmingham and has not been able to train with his team
mates: "I twisted my ankle and already at half time against West Ham I
said I probably woudn't be able to play the full 90 minutes.

"Now I hope to be able to train with the others on Thursday (today) or
Friday because then I could play against Birmingham at the weekend but
I am not sure that will go so well.

"I have received treatment everyday and haven't been able to train yet."

Campbell & Bendtner - We've to keep fighting

Arsenal's prodigal son Sol Campbell, is really enjoying his second
spell at the North London outfit and he just told Arsenal Tv Online
what has to be done if we must end our barren trophy run this year.

The experienced defender advised his team mates to keep the Arsenal
fire burning within them and to believe they can do the impossible
by getting ahead of Manchester United and Chelsea to stand a chance of
winning the title.

He spoke about Arsenal's last gasp winner at Hull two days ago, and insists it was good for the team's morale:
"We kept fighting and got the win in the end, and we do not care as
long as the win comes," Campbell told Arsenal Tv Online.

"It is never easy, you have to win and earn your rights, you have to
play good football - nobody is just going to give you three points in
this League, no chance.

"We just have to keep focused, picking up the wins and stay in there."

Nicklas Bendtner, the man who single-handedly triggered the
termination of Phil Brown's contract at Hull City via that late goal
on Saturday, has maintained that he doesn't want to be distracted by
his critics and he's instead prepared to do his talking on the pitch.
The striker is confident that the Gunners can continue manufacturing
favourable results. All they have to do is keep a cool head.

"A lot of things are said in football, a lot of comments made -
everyone has their opinions," he said. "I cannot really say what is
the difference (in Arsenal this season) but we are winning and just
have to keep doing that."

Boateng - a clog in our wheel of progress

I won't dwell on past tackles and similar incidents all born by a
simple, yet childish desire to inflict bodily harm on our young
players.

We've seen them all, at Birmingham, at Stoke to mention but a few. But
Saturday's incident was glaring enough for an impartial observer to
realise that Arsenal players and feeble players in general in the
Premier League aren't been offered the sort of protection necessary
for their survival - the playing ground isn't level and something has
to be done and pretty fast, if we want to see these crop of players grace the
colours of their respective teams in the long-run.
The referee's are awake to their duties but it's crystal clear that
the FA, is turning a blind eye to the nefarious activities of
tackle-happy defenders who are giving a wrong impression of the
Barclays Premier League to future players.

Hull City's George Boateng, is undoubtedly a tough-tackling and experienced defender.
Infact, he's very commited to the Hull cause.
But I am really not in the mood to commend the player for his heroics,
I am asking that he owns up to the glaring fact that his tackle was
pre-meditated instead of hiding under the cloak of his controversial
manager, who as expected will definately come to the rescue of his captain not minding the consequence of his player's action.

George Boateng, who recently won an appeal after he was adjudged by referee
Lee Probert, to have used his elbow to gain unfair advantage on M.
Gamst Pedersen during their match with Blackburn, more than a month
ago, albeit he was vindicated after replays showed his elbow didn't make
contact with Pedersen.
But against Arsenal on Saturday, there's no way in the World he's
going to contemplate filing an appeal after engineering the costly
trick on Sagna himself.

Is it our fault that we play beautifully and are a delight to watch?
If the idiot has played his cards well, would he be battling
relegation with a team like Hull City who have never had it so good?
Let's face it - we've only lost twice this season apart from our
home/away poor form against Manchester United and Chelsea this season,
so I didn't expect our trip to the Kingston Comms Stadium to be a
stroll in the park. And as well, I didn't expect a defender as
experienced as Boateng to engage in such an unnecessary
challenge that was clearly capable of ending Sagna's
illustrious career and adding another injury problem to our extensive list.

Bendtner was the first to dissaprove of the malicious tackle that the
so-called leader of the Tigers intentionally launched at Bacary Sagna,
after he realised he couldn't pick on the towering striker.
The Danish striker admitted that he feared that Boateng has inflicted
a Ramsey-like injury to his team mate and one of our star performers
this season. The Dane was relieved to see his team mate rise to his feets and he executed his duties with more passion and zeal than he did 44 minutes earlier.

Bacary was in pain, but every gooner has to thank his stars for the
player's almost immediate recovery. Although we could sense the
discomfort he was going through, been on his feets was a testimony to
the resilience and commitment we've shown since that February blip
that resulted in our been ruled out of the title contention.

Bendtner was infuriated with the defender's unwarranted tackle, the 22-year-old striker
condemned Boateng, for his unsporting behaviour and maintained that the
referee's decision to send him off was justified: "It could have been
another bad one, but luckily nothing happened," he said. "It was a
poor challenge. You can see the stud marks up Bac's knee."

"My eyes Ok now," Bendtner continued. "I told him you can't poke
someone in the eye when the ref isn't looking, that's not fair. I told
him that and he got a bit upset. He took it out on Bac and rightly got
a red card. From then on the game settled down."

Our title challenge has suffered a lot of setbacks and our players equally have endured a lot of pain due to tackles that aren't only illegal but also unwarranted for. It's time we told our detractors that:
Though Eduardo's tackle demoralised us, Ramsey's unfortunate incident has been an inspiration and future tackles won't scare us.

Go Gunners . . . Show 'em your name is engraved on the title already.

Bendtner ensures seventh injury-time winner for Arsenal

Who is still of the opinion that we can handle Premier League pressure
without our influential captain?

Fabregas has shown time-after-time that he's infectious on the pitch.
We've seen him hustle for the Gunners to ensure the fruition of their
resilience. And that was clearly missing today, Nasri did his best but
like we've come to see it wasn't good enough. Above all I must commend
the Gunners for not giving up, for keeping the belief and most
importantly for fast-forwarding Hull City's Premier League exit.

We were made to work hard, harder than we did at Stoke and at the end
it was our commitment versus their determination and I must admit we
were indeed lucky to scale through the hurdle imposed by Hull at the
Kingston Communications Stadium.

But you might ask, what is more important the win or our performance?
I'd say our performance - we lacked the incisiveness Arsenal are
renowned for, we looked like an understrength and fatigued team
(Hull, who played for 45 minutes with 10 players showed more
desperation to earn a point than we did). And almost made a joke out
of our title ambition.
I might be dissapointed with our performance but I am satisfied with
the result (1-2). At least our rivals especially Manchester United
know the extent to which their job is done.

Here's a little match report, my eyelids are heavy. So far so good, we
are still hanging on and to say the least we aren't doing badly
either. As expected, the match started on a high note, and it wasn't
devoid of controversy as a repeat of what happened (just two players
were involved this time) in December last year at the Emirates ensued,
resulting in the booking of Bendtner and Boateng respectively. Hull
and Arsenal were fined by the FA, for failing to restrain their
players last year, and today was no exception as Boateng who
eventually got what he deserved (red-carded) for aiming a malicious
tackle at Sagna, five minutes after inviting Bendtner's trouble by
dragging the youngster backwards intentionally.

We started on the wrong foot, gave away possession easily, but built
slowly yet steadily, on our confidence which led to a typical Arsenal
move and Bendtner picked out Arshavin, cleverly and the Russian made
it look easy as he scrambled his way past his markers to emphatically
state Arsenal's intent with just 14 minutes gone.

Our lead lasted for less than a quarter of an hour as Vennegoor of
Hesselink who was clearly off-side decieved referee Marriner by diving
in front of Campbell - taking no chances Marriner awarded a spot-kick
and booked Campbell for a non-existent foul. Bullard who's the Tiger's
record signing stepped-up to fire the home team level courtesy of the
resulting penalty.

The second-half started with Arsenal apparently nursing the injustice
meted out to them by their hosts. Our bitterness resulted in
frustration and Arshavin and Bendtner grew from bad to worse (their
efforts on goal hardly troubled Myhill).
Just as Hull were about to derive comfort by denying Arsenal a
hard-fought win Denilson fancied a shot outside the penalty area and
funny enough, it was too hot for Myhill to handle and Bendtner, was
handy to tap in from close range automatically sending the Gunners
above Manchester United pending the outcome of their result tomorrow.

Wenger - Bendtner is gaining momentum

Arsene Wenger is prepared to tell whoever, cares to listen that his
teenage prodigy (Nicklas Bendtner) is alive to his duties as a
striker.

The Arsenal manager showered encomiums on the young Dane after he netted his fifth goal in just four matches for the Gunners, and the gaffer believes
that he has finally arrived, though he admits that there is still room
for improvement.

The youngster who has suffered ample criticism and accusations of meekness in front of goal, even been
labelled a good for nothing striker by a large section of the media
and infact us (gooners), recently showed what he's capable of doing by
wrecking Porto's chances of progressing to the last eight and paving
the way for the Gunners in the process.
You might argue that he was opportuned to score a hat-trick, you might
also buttress your claim by insisting that he was a passenger on some
occasions during the match, but then you've got to stop for a moment and ask yourself,
what Bendtner's job is really all about?
And you'll be glad to see why the manager is confident that Bendtner
will definately live up to expectation.

The boss isn't harbouring any negativity and maintains that the old
Bendtner has passed away, giving birth to a new and energetic forward.

"If you look at him and three to four weeks ago, he's a different
player," said Wenger. "A few weeks ago he looked out of shape, heavy
running, heavy feet. It's already different as he plays games.

"What is important for him is that he's not injured. As a top-level
player, first when you need to have a good run and you have a good run
it's important."

Arsene Wenger has also ruled out an automatic shirt for the towering
striker and insists playing for the Gunners is performance based.

"He doesn't know that he's going to play but he knows that he'll get a
chance," Wenger said. "As long as he does well he has a good chance of
playing. As well, he has qualities that are needed in our team."

Bendtner & Wenger - we can win the Champions League

Arsenal hat-trick hero Nicklas Bendtner has stated that Arsenal can
win the Champions League.

The 22-year-old survived heavy criticism from every quarter (even we
the supporters are not exempted) after his lacklustre performance on
Saturday against Burnley.
But look how quickly things change, A player who missed a hat-trick of
chances against lowly Burnley scores 60% of his chances on a night
Arsenal fans will not forget in a hurry.

The Striker and his team mates repayed Wenger's faith in them by
sending the visitors from Portugal home without a goal to show for
their numerous efforts.

"This will give us a lot of confidence. We want to win the Champions
League. It's something we haven't done." Bendtner enthused after
booking a Porto bound-flight for Falcao and co.

"Every time I play a game I put it behind me as soon as it's finished.
Sometimes it's one of those days and today I put it right. I'm happy
with my hat-trick but tomorrow we move on."

Arsene Wenger who in his wildest imagination possibly could not have
hoped for a scoreline as rampant as 5-0, has showered encomiums on his
Danish import and the team as a whole.
The Boss has now re-written his own history - he has never recovered
from an away defeat in the UEFA Champions League and a what a way to
state his intent.
Surely, the scoreline flattered us but we were made to work hard for
our win which certainly means we deserved the outcome of the match and
gave Porto counter-attacking lessons they'll never forget.

Arsene Wenger on Bendtner's performance: "His confidence level is
always stable. He has the size and the presence we need. We're usually
a short team so someone with size is important, offensively and
defensively.

The gaffer is as optimistic as Bendtner and insists his current crop
of players can square up with any of the Epl's big boys in the
quarter-finals of the competition.
"I've a good feeling maybe it's good for us an English team.
We have not done well against Chelsea and Man United this year and it
would be a good chance to show we can do it against them.

"We do not choose Manchester United or Chelsea, but if I say we don't
want to play an English team we're in an inferior position. I believe
maybe it's a good opportunity if we get them to show we can do well.

"But if I had a choice I would say yes. If we get them we cannot do
worse than we did in the Championship, we can only do better.

"If I don't smile tonight I will never smile. We controlled the game,
played our fluent football and had a positive start with early goals
which gave us the belief. Over the 90 minutes we controlled 80.

"Overall we controlled the game, scored great goals and were good to watch.
We did what we like to do, we won with style and always went forward
in a positive way."

Fabregas came, saw, equalled Pires' record and left injured

Ever since the Gunners decided to chart their own course, after
suffering back to back defeats to Chelsea and Manchester United. The
League has and is still experiencing what can be likened to an
uprising.

And I'm glad we're doing it the hard way and fortunately for us also,
we are gradually restoring parity.
We've been clamouring for a team that isn't scared of conceding for
the mere sake of their inability to strike back.
The unresolving character the lads are displaying is the catalyst
that has energised and increased their ability to hit back (playing
beautifully) when bullied.
Last week is a fresh example and the same attitude was evident at the
Emirates today.

Arsenal decreased Burnley's survival options as they survived a
second-half scare to confine Burnley to the Epl relegation zone.

Captain fantastic had a great game as usual, kick-started the
proceedings via a sublime finish and left the pitch with a smile of
fulfillment.
The Club has since issued an official statement on the midfielder's injury.
"He has a hamstring problem and we don't know how big the damage is
yet because it is too early. We'll see tomorrow or monday.
We have to make a late decision over whether he plays on Tuesday,
certainly. It is the same hamstring (he hurt against Aston Villa
earlier in the season)."

The Gunners displayed maturity and courage when it mattered and showed
no trace of the "Eduardo situation".
However, they made a few mistakes. Emmanuel Eboue was the unlucky
culprit as his clearance was headed back by Leon Cort enabling Nugent
to embarass both the defence and the goalkeeper. To hand Burnley a
temporary lifeline.

Walcott is steadily finding his rhythm and when he does, like he did
today you can definately expect nothing less than a World class finish
that can only be matched by Andrey Arshavin's last gasp strike.
The youngster has been the subject of hasty criticism following his
below par performance during England's international friendly against
Egypt which they eventually won.

At least he has created some space for himself with his performance today.

Tonight's worst performer is none other than Nicklas Bendtner - he's
capable of doing wonders when he's in the mood, especially with his
head but I don't think the same can be said of his legs.
His awful finishing quickly reminds me of Thierry Henry, if not Van
Persie trademark finishes.
The youngster's finishing is unacceptable, he lacks the ability to
deliver the killer punch. Worst of all his speed is nothing to write
home about as well as his recovery rate. Wenger has to inject a bit of that magic (I don't care how he does it) but it's pertinent Bendtner improves, our title hopes might rest on the youngster's inexperienced shoulders.

Even though, victory was ours for the taking credit has to be given to
Burnley, they've shown they can contain the Big Boys. But I'm afraid
they've to do better than that if they don't want to be switching
places with a more adventourous Championship side come May.

Bendtner bent on repaying Wenger

The 22-year-old has been in and out of the Premier League due
to injuries.

However, his presence and importance to the team can't be overstated.

Bendtner's height produces the catalyst Arsenal need to bolster their
attack effectively.
His goal tally might be low as a striker in comparison to Thomas
Vermaelen who is far ahead of him despite playing defensively.
He's definately not the best option Arsenal has but also he isn't the
least. And it's only a matter of games below his belt and he might
snap out of his sluggishness and lack of pace - to prove to us all
that he won't be a FLOP and liability to the club.

The Dane who played for the first time this year against Aston Villa,
opened his new year account for Arsenal last week against the Black
Cats as he helped Arsenal keep their title hopes alive.
The youngster who has missed enough action already has stated in
unequivocal terms that he's more than ready to repay the Manager's
faith in him, by doing anything on the pitch to send the message
across that Arsene Wenger's decision to stick with him wasn't a
mistake.

"Yes and that's really important," claimed Bendtner.
"All I have to do now is show him he made the right choice. I'm sure
he has and I've got to show it on the pitch.
"It's difficult obviously being out, despite whoever else is out. It's
difficult. Coming back for me was really important."
