Arsenal Set To Sign Andre Santos and Florent Malouda, While Zarate's Deal Hangs In The Balance

The Premier League suspects for this season are undoubtedly Manchester City and Manchester United, the duo appear to have launched miles ahead of the competition based on their summer transfer activities and impressive results. Arsenal, however, will be one of the sides hoping to crack the duopoly, although the supporters are fully aware who the favourites for the Championship are given our shambolic performance at Old Trafford.

There are so many teams at the top of the log at the moment, but this is just the start. The picture will be clearer in two months and we will really see what is going to happen during the season. But I think this season there's going to be a real battle. We are going to see a great Premier League and teams like Arsenal, Tottenham, and Liverpool will be fighting for the title.

In order to meet the supporters' lofty expectations Arsene Wenger is expected to shore up his defence and midfield. If news currently doing the rounds on various Arsenal blogs and forums is anything to go by, the club may unveil two experienced players who don't have age on their side in the coming hours.

It is believed in some quarters that Wenger's £6.2million bid for Brazilian left-back Andre Santos (28), has being accepted by his club. And £8million will be tabled for Chelsea's French midfielder Florent Malouda (31), who according to people in the know might don the colours of the Arsenal for proximity rather than cash reasons.

In the meantime, Arsenal are yet to submit a suitable bid for Lazio's want-away forward Mauro Zarate. The Argentine striker is currently generating a lot of interest from top european clubs, but Lotito (club president) is desperate to ensure that they remain competitive, and sees the 24-year-old as an integral member of the squad.
