But I know the experience will be so invaluable to me in the near future. So I think it is safe to say it was fun while it lasted, although I don't mean that last sentence one bit.
Back to Arsenal focus now, we at The Online Emirates are proud to announce that we plan to celebrate the blog's chequered history sometimes in june this year. By the way, we should be four years old by then. God willing, there should be a few giveaways for the most corrosive fan base on the face of this planet.
The second half of this season's Premier League campaign promises to be the most keenly contested in recent years, and hopefully our players will stop consulting the physio's manual whenever they have a mere headache, and prove to us one more time why they must be paid the big bucks.Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-55818278253150447732011-11-08T09:00:00.000+01:002011-11-08T09:00:07.651+01:00Robin And The Arsenal Are Getting There; Slow And Steady They Say Wins The RaceWho says laughter is not really the best form of medicine needed in times like this to soothe the nerves of fans of the beautiful round leather game the world over?
I do not give a hoot about what the media or other soccer teams and their employees think of our current resurgence in the world's most watched/exciting league. Speaking from a biased point of view, I think my vocabulary has run out of superlatives to describe the blistering form of Robin van Persie -the center forward continues to dominate the headlines with performances such as the stunning hat trick he grabbed at Stamford Bridge, followed by a goal and two assists at the Emirates last weekend against West Brom, where the Gunners fired on all cylinders to deliver a masterclass in the art of football in the presence of their darling supporters.
I read Arsene Wenger's comments on the match in respect to the total commitment being exhibited by his boys at present and his overall view on the premier league this season. And I must admit, those were interesting topics the manager raised, and his admission that there was still much to be done showed how committed he was to building a legendary team capable of ending our long trek to the promised land of trophies. The players must keep this performance(s) up if they are to stand a ghost of a chance against the Arab and Russian financed clubs in the league.Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-59675584314017032722011-11-04T03:31:00.000+01:002011-11-04T03:31:04.353+01:00Arsene Wenger's Player Update On New Injuries, Chamakh, Gibbs and Vermaelen Ahead Of West BromArsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken via the club's official website in respect to his team's injury position ahead of West Bromwich Albion's highly anticipated visit to the Emirates stadium, where they ran out surprise winners last season thanks to an inspirational performance from their Nigeria import Osaze Odemwingie.
According to Wenger, who engineered the gradual but steady movement of his team from the relegation confines to the coveted top half of the premier league log - after enduring one of the worst spells of his brilliant Arsenal career stated in unequivocal terms that the injuries that are known to plague his team, are at an all time low this weekend as the north london outfit prepares to reclaim its place among the newly formed top five or six to be precise.
Speaking on new injuries he said: "There are none, basically. We have no injuries from Tuesday night which is very positive. Apart from long-term injuries we have only Chamakh and Gibbs out at the moment. Going into November that's not too bad. Often we have had good starts and then a little drop in November. This season we didn't have a very good start and hopefully we can go from strength to strength as we are doing at the moment."
He spoke on interesting injury topics like Marouane Chamakh's inflammation in the knee and his recovery period. Kieran Gibbs' current position on the treatment table and his possible return date to action. Plus, Thomas Vermaelen's reaction to his full return against Marseille in the UEFA Champions League on tuesday after an injury layoff.
On Marouane Chamakh: "He has a little inflammation in his knee. There is a little effusion and he will not be available for Saturday. I think he will miss the international games as well. Hopefully he should be ready again after the international break."
On Kieran Gibbs: "He is not available for Saturday as well. He is progressing normally, a bit slower than expected but there's a chance he might be available after the international break."
On Thomas Vermaelen's reaction on the backdrop of his return from his recent injury: "Apart from stiffness, no, there was no reaction."Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-67623397009070789772011-10-31T09:44:00.000+01:002011-10-31T09:44:04.090+01:00Match Preview: Arsenal Vs Marseille; The Gunners Are Favourites To Win And Possibly QualifyTomorrow's Group F UEFA champions league fixtures are guaranteed to make or mar the prospect of qualification in the long-run for the likes of Arsenal, Olympique Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Olimpiacos. In the meantime, the north london outfit is occupying the highly coveted 1st spot courtesy of an impressive 7 points haul from 3 matches, closely followed by Ligue1 in-form side Marseille (6 points). A win for Arsenal and Group F's surprise back-bencher Dortmund (1 point), against Olimpiacos (3 points) will almost certainly guarantee the possibility of qualification for the Gunners.
During Match Day 3 at Marseille, Arsenal were not 100 percent solid at the back, but they somehow managed to keep their host's numerous danger men at bay - from the playmaker known as the "little bike" to Andre Ayew and Loic Remy in attack, the Gunners showed that they came prepared by giving answers to every threat Didier Deschamps men posed. Deschamps has a very potent attacking force that is spear-headed by the duo of Ayew and Remy, and the tactician expects his attackers to live up to the lofty expectations of the fans given the frosty relationship between him and the club's sporting director Jose Anigo. Arsene Wenger has had his own fair share of problems with the Arsenal faithful, but a good defensive display coupled with an exhibition of real attacking quality that has the potential to ensure an express ticket to the next round of the competition would be very welcome by his admirers and critics alike.
After fighting off resistance from a highly motivated Chelsea team on Saturday Arsenal will go into their Champions League clash with Marseille on the back of that 5-3 victory. Arsenal showed great determination and courage against Chelsea, and through out the thrilling encounter their attacking prowess was never in doubt thanks to the current understanding being generated by the likes of Robin van Persie, Theo Walcott and Yao Gervinho in attack. The Netherlands international was clinical and merciless in front of Petr Cech, as the hapless goalkeeper watched the 28-year-old stroke the ball casually home at will. Theo Walcott was at his flying best - He conquered the wings very early in the game by literally terrorising the old guards with his messmerizing runs. And as expected, this impressive display culminated in the dictionary definition of a soccer punch less than 10 minutes into the second half. Yao Gervinho extended his steady run of healthy performances in the premier league at the weekend. The Ivory Coast international was unselfish as usual in front of goal, and quickly made amends for his earlier miss with a well laid out pass to van Persie which resulted in the equaliser.
In Midfield, I think Wenger will start with his strongest trio of Mikel Arteta, Alex Song and the in-form Aaron Ramsey - the youngster has tapped so much from the massive experience the Arsenal midfield department can offer and just like the absent Jack Wilshere I think our boy will go places if he maintains or strives to improve the current standard he operates on. Although I would like to see a midfield that comprises of the afore-mentioned players, I would not be disappointed if Tomas Rosicky or Yossi Benayoun is drafted in to dictate midfield proceedings, in the eventuality that the manager decides to hand any of his high flyers a well-deserved rest.
The Gunners are set to hand their fit again Belgium import Thomas Vermaelen a place in the heart of the defense alongside Per Mertesacker or Laurent Koscielny. On second thoughts; I will opt for the more versatile Koscielny - the France international has successfully passed the stern premier league test with flying colours. As for Werder Bremen's former skipper I think his adaptation cycle is incomplete yet. At right back, it is very obvious that Arsene Wenger's summer acquisition Carl Jenkinson will relieve Johan Djourou of his defensive duties come this time tomorrow. In left back Andre Santos will certainly start pending the return of Kieran Gibbs from injury.
In all, from an Arsenal supporter point of view I expect us to seize the day.Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-34449345897496190392011-10-30T06:19:00.000+01:002011-10-30T06:19:03.347+01:00Robin van Persie has scored 28 goals in 27 Games In This Calender YearWhat a lovely morning today promises to be! Yesterday's impressive derby result at the home of our major rival Chelsea, was one that broke a lot of odd records in respect to our dismal away outing this campaign.
The Gunners were faced with the daunting task of ending the Blues' winning streak at home, where they have won 10 of their last 11 Premier League games, the only draw they registered at Stamford bridge during this time frame was courtesy Newcastle in May earlier this year. It took an enterprising Liverpool side in company of their major acquisitions (Raul Meireles to be precise) to snatch all three points from the Blues at Stamford bridge on the 6th of February.
Given the circumstances under which the Gunners were expected to beat the Blues, it would have appeared impossible on paper despite the absence of Didier Drogba. Arsenal were yet to register a win away from the Emirates stadium. The only thing of note they got from their four away trips this season was a solitary point they won at premier league high-flyers Newcastle United, which was the equal worst record in the Premier League -until now.
The Gunners' last away win came at Blackpool back in April, around the same time Chelsea last failed to win at the Bridge. However, that they say is history as Robin Van Persie has successfully underlined his importance to The Arsenal by single-handedly beating Chelsea for the second time in almost three years at their own backyard.
The return of Arsenal's confidence was at a steady pace given the fact that they have won seven of their last eight matches in all competitions. Although, unlike the Blues who have won all five Premier League games when they have opened the scoring, the Gunners have lost all three games when their opponents scored first. Well, that little detail did not come into play yesterday as the Gunners drew deep into their energy reserves to end the Blues' 33 games record of not losing back to back matches since they last suffered consecutive league games losses in the hands of Sunderland (home) and Birmingham (away).
Our boys came from behind twice yesterday to make the supporters proud as Van Persie 3, Andre Santos 1, Theo Walcott 1, all scored to ensure that the combined efforts of Frank Lampard, John Terry and Juan Mata were futile in the end.Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-36761396538048927312011-10-28T05:09:00.003+01:002011-10-28T05:44:14.644+01:00With Didier Drogba Set To Miss -I Think We Can Make Something Of Note Happen!Chelsea here we come! I get this uneasy feeling this days whenever the prospect of losing on our away trip(s) creeps steadily into my thinking faculty. According to the stats; the Gunners were the best away team in the league last campaign, garnering a massive 31 points from a possible 57 on their travels. In the meantime, the reverse is the case. Anyway, we can console ourselves with the outdated fact that we somehow managed to earn a point at St. James Park despite Yao Gervinho's well orchestrated sending-off party.
Since we are not Manchester City who have impressed the Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, plus a lot of unbiased lovers of the beautiful round leather game with their sleek attacking style of play... Lest I forget, and unrivalled firepower in front of goal -there will always be for us some good news and some bad news especially when it has to do with a short trip to Stamford Bridge to engage our <strike>under-achieving</strike> neighbours.
Recently, we have had to put up with a lot of what I prefer to call 'acceptable news' (for now) from a vast majority of our players. They claim they are currently as fit as crouching tigers, and thanks to their new-found fitness levels are ready to reclaim their lost glory in a stadia, where Chelsea has not lost since their last home league defeat against Liverpool on 6 February.
As usual, I not only wish that our players up their game a notch as they have done recently, but also hope that they avoid conceding, if not limit the score-line to an acceptable numeral -depending on whatever negative scoreline the supporters are ready to condone this time. With the incessant media hype being generated in respect to this highly anticipated twice in a league season clash, I think a draw does not feature prominently in the plans of both teams regardless of who is playing home or away.
Chelsea will be hoping to score their 6000th goal in the league when they take to the field against their fellow premier league competitors this weekend. Apart from the ever present injuries, the official website of the blues stated in unequivocal terms that Arsenal's loanee: "Yossi Benayoun is not eligible to play for Arsenal due to the terms of his loan." That not withstanding, I expect our under-fire boys knowing what might happen to their current league position if they win, lose or draw to give it their all.
The best news I've heard all month (football-wise) is the confirmed absence of one of Chelsea's most dangerous attackers of all time when the two London clubs meet... Didier Drogba, does the name ring a bell? The ivory coast international has scored 13 goals against Arsenal in 12 starts plus two substitute appearances since joining the blues in 2004. However, Andre Villas Boas still has plenty of options to quickly activate, chief among them is their £50m record mis-firing striker Fernando Torres. The entire gooner nation will hope that Robin Van Persie replicates the form that saw him score twice to hand the Gunners a famous 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge almost three years ago.Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-17250359375448830282011-10-10T09:18:00.001+01:002011-10-10T09:23:49.904+01:00Transfer Update: Arsenal Still In For Juan Manuel Vargas and Pablo HernandezThis morning's rumour-mill has been churning out some interesting speculative stories with regards to transfer activities concerning the Arsenal.
According to unverified reports emanating here in England, Arsenal will attempt to take their fair share of the 'Valencia cake' after losing Juan Mata to Premier League rival Chelsea two months ago.
The Gunners have reportedly added the highly-rated attacking midfielder Pablo Hernandez to their transfer wishlist. However, it is obvious that Arsene Wenger will only sanction the move next year if the 26-year-old Spain international can maintain the fine form that has seen him rise to prominence in the Spanish La Liga.
According to several media outlets and blogging platforms -Arsenal will take matters into their own hands next year in respect to the transfer of Juan Manuel Vargas from Fiorentina.
The various reports suggest that the versatile playmaker will not leave his current club for anything less than €14 million.Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-19643900994947018922011-10-09T13:54:00.000+01:002011-10-09T13:54:21.947+01:00Arsenal and Ac Milan Set To Fight Over Montolivo: Milan Offer Cash Plus El ShaarawyLatest speculation concerning the future of Italy international and Fiorentina star Riccardo Montolivo, suggest that his current club must sell him at a cut-price next year or risk losing him on a free transfer given the player's reluctance to extend his current deal beyond next year.According to Corriere dello Sport and TuttoMercatoWeb.com, Arsenal alongside Italian champions Ac Milan are monitoring the situation of the wantaway playmaker very closely with regards to snapping the 26-year-old midfielder next year.
Milan are believed to be willing to offer cash in the region of €3 million plus their impressive and versatile youngster Stephan El Shaarawy to augment the deal.
El Shaarawy is expected to fly the colours of the Viola for six months or more depending on the terms reached during the loan agreement, if the Milan based outfit can successfully ward off British interest.
In the meantime, Arsene Wenger will be hoping to draw inspiration from the remnant of his huge financial warchest. The Arsenal tactician spent a club record fee of over £50 million on new additions during the just concluded summer transfer activities. He also gave a brief but concise explanation for what the Arsenal's plans for the upcoming games are, in respect to their gradual yet steady drop in form. The following is an excerpt from arshavin.eu (be sure to visit for the complete interview and more).
Question: "Who do you have the best relationship with in Arsenal?" Arshavin's Answer: "I'm on good terms with all teammates. Earlier, when Cesc (Fabregas) and Samir (Nasri) played for Arsenal, we were on friendly terms, and also with (Nicklas) Bendtner."
Question: "Why did you move deliberately to Arsenal." Arshavin's Answer: "Arsenal is a club with great traditions. I am sure that many players dreamed and dream of playing for it."
Question: "What's going on in Arsenal, what’s the club’s objective? I think that with these changes in the lineup and focus on the young inexperienced players (which is happening every year) it’s unlikely to win trophies even considering Wenger’s talent. I do not understand Arsenal from its point of view or its main goal. It’s a pity that it’s probably quite difficult for you to be in shape and a good mood in such circumstances."
Arshavin's Answer: "What's happening? We are trying to improve a difficult situation we got ourselves into. 7 points is not enough. Now we must try to win every game. Then, after a few rounds, the situation might change dramatically. Something positive? There are other tournaments where our club plays successfully so far."Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-52842905341589659602011-10-06T02:35:00.000+01:002011-10-06T02:35:12.441+01:00Sagna: 'Carl Will Be The Best Defender Soon'Arsenal and France international defender Bacary Sagna says he believes in the judgment of Arsene Wenger in respect to the possibility of starting youngster Carl Jenkinson in the coming games.
The right back is undoubtedly one of the best defenders the Premier League has played host to in recent years, but it is left to be seen if his prediction in support of our 19-year-old will come to fruition in the near future.
A statement on the official website announced his injury in unequivocal terms - stating what the medical team has done already and the time frame for his recovery: "(Sagna has) undergone further assessment and investigations on his fractured right fibula with the Club's medical team and specialists. I disagree with the basis for the lower rating. I see the shrewdness in the club's approach to signings as something that is needed, timely, beneficial and capable of leading to a better financial structure in respect to the club's future monetary objectives.
Two wins at home in less than five days makes me believe that Arsenal is not doing badly on the pitch now. So over all I see it as a positive indication of our awakening after suffering a bizarre defeat in the hands of Manchester United. Although we are having problems with injuries currently, I think the situation will get better as the acclimatisation of the new additions progresses. Our fundamentals are very strong even when compared with the likes of City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and United.
Sincerely speaking, the reasons for the downgrade are debatable. However, I wouldn't say they are baseless. I am sure they are hinged on concerns with our defensive frailties and our inability to go head to head with the 'big clubs' in order to sign topdraw players. So I can't say their arguments are baseless. But having said that, I think it came at a wrong time given what the club's board did during the transfer window and Wenger's determination to ensure that critical issues affecting the team are addressed.
So I think those former players should have waited to see what the outcome of that exercise would be before arriving at their hasty generalisations. There is absolutely reason, save for sentiments, to endure hard times given the promise of what lies ahead for our club.Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-58094313063132976542011-09-15T06:34:00.000+01:002011-09-15T06:34:29.664+01:00Benayoun Happy With Arsenal SwitchArsenal's new signing Yossi Benayoun, who joined the Gunners from Chelsea on loan during the well publicised transfer deadline day told the club's official website that he has nothing to prove to his former employees, who limited his playing time greatly due in part to his injuries.
Despite the setback the 31-year-old team captain of Israel maintained that he “was very calm,” during the transfer entire process, and he admitted that he was aware of Arsenal's interest in his services but a mutual agreement at Stamford Bridge prevented him from jumping ship earlier as the move was subject to the arrival of his replacement, who in this case was former Liverpool player Raul Meireles: “It was dramatic in the media but I knew I had a few options in England on the final day.
“It was agreed between me and Chelsea to wait until the last day to see if they bring in another player. I knew I had a few offers and when Arsenal came it was an easy choice.”
“I didn’t get a chance at Chelsea because I was injured,” he said. “I was unlucky. I felt I would not get many chances so I wanted to leave first. For me, it was great opportunity for me to play in a great club and in the Champions League.
“I don’t want to show anything to
However, the website of the club in question is yet to do justice to his particulars - by manner of removing his name and details from its current first team players list for this season.
Just like the afore-mentioned supporter, I also, made use of the 'contact us' information embedded on the site, but I am yet to see any sign of action after nearly 48 hours of submitting my neatly drafted request. Hopefully, the situation will be rectified in the near future.Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-21162037144268559062011-09-03T12:08:00.000+01:002011-09-03T12:08:14.827+01:00Arshavin Happy With Yuri's Performance Against MacedoniaArsenal's attacking midfielder and Russia skipper Andrey Arshavin has spoken of his delight in the aftermath of Macedonia's defeat at their hands.
The 30-year-old player told his official website that he's unhappy with the 1-0 scoreline. The russians were by far the better side in the first half, but their dominance did not translate to goals on the score-sheets: "As for the game, we were unable to seize the initiative in the first half.
"Hence, the difficulties in the game, due to the fact that we gave too much free territory to the Macedonians. They used this space quite confidently. Although we did not allow them into our penalty area, but their long balls were dangerous. Well, it’s good that we managed to open the score in the first half.
"It’s very important to go on a break leading 1-0. Besides, it turned out to be the winning goa,." he added.
Igor Semshov scored the only goal, but our playmaker believes former Chelsea man Yuri Zhirkov, who presently plies his trade in Russia for Anzhi Makachkala is the man of the match - thanks to his immense contributions in the midfield: "He was simply working miracles. And the fans as well as the team are very happy that he had such a great match," he concluded.Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-86237222540356455522011-09-03T08:11:00.000+01:002011-09-03T08:11:56.401+01:00Oxlade-Chamberlain Impressed With Wenger's Signings, Especially MertesackerArsenal's new boy Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has spoken of his determination to compete, with the express purpose of winning the coach and the fans heart alike.
The youngster, who joined the Gunners from Southampton during this summer's transfer window for an undisclosed fee amidst interest from several top division sides, maintained his earlier stance to fight for his place in the team despite strong competition from the likes of Van Persie, Yao Gervinho, Marouane Chamakh, Chu Young Park, Theo Walcott, Andrey Arshavin and even Ryo Miyaichi.
Alex made his debut as a second half substitute for the Gunners at Old Trafford last week. Just like a true winner, the 18-year-old England U-21 star is prepared to work hard in training to achieve his target: “He's just bought some new players now and I understand it's going to be hard for me, but I'm a young lad coming into the Club and I understand I've got a lot of hard work to do to try and impress him.”
Alex is impressed with the manner in which his new pals welcomed him to the Premier League: “I've settled in well. At first I was a little apprehensive going in maybe, but all the boys have welcomed me nicely and I'm getting into the swing of things.
“I understand there is a lot of hard work to establish myself and get in amongst it, but it's going well for me,” he added.
The versatile youngster kept an open mind on Arsene Wenger's new signings. He believes the manager struck great bargains, especially with the capture of ex-Werder Bremen skipper Per Mertesacker: “I don't think Arsenal would buy anybody who isn't a good player.
“I've seen the likes of Per Mertesacker play and they look like quality signings. I think they will do a good job for us and help us to do well this year,” he concluded.Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-17592003772114068272011-09-02T16:55:00.000+01:002011-09-02T16:55:20.782+01:00Arsenal Upbeat Despite SetbacksArsenal's new signings have promised to turn our season around. The Gunners' effort to play an attractive brand of football of their own last season were commendable, if ultimately fruitless, as injuries and suspensions in the Premier League made for a disappointing finish.
Indeed had the likes of Abou Diaby, Cesc Fabregas, Robin Van Persie, Thomas Vermaelen, Marouane Chamakh and Samir Nasri not succumbed to injuries, our fluidity and ease of movement around our opponents could have easily compensated for our profligacy in front of goal.
An assured and dominant display by Manchester United in Old Trafford proved too much for the depleted visitors to date as Arsenal left Manchester with their hands on their heads for their effort. The manager Arsene Wenger refused to be downbeat despite watching his side fall to a... nevermind. We are recharged to say the least, and I know the boys can play well and compete with the top players, winning the Premier League by all means is our main goal this season.
The stage for Arsenal to reassert its supremacy is the Champions League, the club didn't sign marquee players as hoped - I think Arteta obviously, Mertesacker and Gervinho are three of the best players in the League and any team would find them a handful. We maybe made a few mistakes last season by allowing some disgruntled members of the squad to play without enjoyment and passion, and if stars who don the colours of the Arsenal are not passionate about our history, the club will definitely struggle to stay ahead of the game.
With the confirmation of our latest additions and their immediate declarations of duty, I think it is only logical to conclude that our game is back on track.Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-2392348149704467152011-09-01T03:54:00.002+01:002011-09-01T03:54:46.021+01:00Mertesacker Forces His Way From Werder, Says: 'Arsenal Is A Dream Come True'Werder Bremen have officially acknowledged the transfer of their former center back and skipper Per Mertesacker to Arsenal.
The giant defensive minded player's beacon has being on the Gunners radar for some years now, and the possible defensive partnerships that could be fostered or experimented with by Arsene Wenger is something the supporters eagerly anticipate at the Grove.
The 26-year-old Germany international's ex-club spoke of Per's determination to join Arsenal, and maintains there was absolutely nothing they could do to keep him once Arsenal had matched their valuation: "Per expressed the desire to transfer now. And we have always said that if the conditions are in order then we would approve such a transfer," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs.
"After our previous transfers, we are still well situated with centre backs."
However, Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf spoke from a managerial point of view: "On the one hand it's sad because we still had a lot that we wanted to achieve with Per. On the other hand, we knew how much he is interested in the English league. We have had a good working relationship and wish Per all the best with Arsenal."
The defender in question thanked the club and his well-wishers for their support during his stay in the Bundesliga. Mertesacker is eager to prove his mettle in the Premier League in the red and white of the Arsenal: "I had a great time with Werder and I have a lot to thank the club for. With this transfer to London a dream has come true, taking another step in my career. I have always considered the English Premier League an intriguing challenge," Mertesacker enthused in respect to his transfer.Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2702815898880367848.post-5398373818359160102011-09-01T03:13:00.000+01:002011-09-01T03:13:49.003+01:00Moyes On Arteta's Arsenal Switch: 'I Couldn't Offer Him Champions League Football'Mikel Arteta has signed for Arsenal Football Club from Everton Football Club after a £10 million deal was agreed in stoppage time during yesterday's frantic transfer deadline.
According to David Moyes, the 29-year-old playmaker left Goodison Park in pursuit of greener pastures across England. He blamed his inability to provide the Spaniard with Champions League football, and believes Arsene Wenger has struck a bargain he won't regret.
The Blues Boss told Evertonfc.com in unequivocal terms of his disappointment with the last ditch move, but above all, he wishes his former playmaker all the best in his endeavours with Arsenal at The Emirates: “Mikel indicated to me that he wished to join Arsenal if a bid came in. The gunners are currently in their elements now, with Wenger splashing and spending big on quality - something we don't see him do often. Anyway, welcome to Ashburton Grove friends. However, the former Monaco tactician is expected to reciprocate the kind gesture he accorded to the defence and attack departments of his squad by manner of signing a creative playmaker.
Tomas Rosicky and Aaron Ramsey have shown promise when called upon, but it is pretty obvious that the good days are long gone for the former, as for the latter, he has some learning to do. Our russian import, Andrey Arshavin in a nutshell is very unpredictable, while Abou Diaby enjoys his past-time of reading the physio's manual to a fault.
The return of Jack Wilshere will herald a new beginning for the Arsenal midfield, which has being devoid of creativity for some time now, no thanks to the departure of our midfield orchestrators. But it is pertinent to note that additions are necessary, if we are to maintain our enviable position as an elite club in the Premier League.
In the meantime, there are deals supposedly in place as we speak that could bring Adam Johnson or Mikel Arteta to the Emirates. Furthermore, Arsenal are expected to unveil Israeli international Yossi Benayoun in the coming hours from Chelsea on loan, if there is an iota of truth in the reports in question. Anyway, I still prefer Arteta to the rest. lets keep our fingers crossed, while the clock ticks mercilessly.Edet Onenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17385999905162578666noreply@blogger.com6
